About
Michael Franti is a globally recognized musician, humanitarian, and hotelier whose life’s work bridges creativity, wellness, and social good. Over a four-decade career, he has inspired millions through his music, advocacy, and commitment to positivity in the face of adversity. Born in Oakland, California, Michael was adopted into a diverse family that valued music, community, and compassion. He began performing at 18, eventually becoming one of the most influential voices in socially conscious music. His sound — a fusion of soul, reggae, hip-hop, and folk — reflects both joy and activism, encouraging listeners to find hope, healing, and unity through rhythm and words. In addition to his music career, Michael is the founder of Soulshine Bali, a boutique resort and retreat center that blends hospitality with mindfulness. Located in Ubud, Bali, Soulshine has become a global destination for creativity, yoga, and connection — a physical extension of Michael’s belief that wellness and joy are universal rights. Alongside his wife Sara Franti, he co-founded Do It For The Love, a nonprofit organization that grants live-music experiences to individuals facing life-threatening illnesses, children with special needs, and wounded veterans. The foundation has touched thousands of lives, reinforcing Franti’s mission of using music to heal and uplift. A lifelong optimist and believer in second chances, Michael continues to share his message through songwriting, community work, and wellness initiatives, creating a legacy that celebrates authenticity, gratitude, and the courage to keep showing up.
